I would dry process the clay. The clay will be finer then the sand.

You just dry the clay out. I air dry, some use wood stoves. Once it's dry you can crumble it to powder and remove all debris.

Wet processing may present a couple of nice advantages. It may keep clay dust out of the air and your lungs. Once in your lungs you cant really get it out so this is a long term health concern for all...
